Project
Buckeye Terminals in Albany, New York had installed many new systems to the terminal at this location to meet their growing need to hold and transfer enormous amounts of ethanol and Canadian crude oil. This project required the installation of many new systems with over 150 new penetrations to their existing secondary containment. The existing terminal’s secondary containment was blacktop covered with asphalt coatings.
Solution
American Coating Technologies was contacted to seal up these areas installation to meet secondary containment requirements. The challenge to provide this containment was that the installation construction work was not completed until the end of December of 2013, which was one of the coldest winters on record.
American Coating Technologies installation required that all areas of new secondary containment had to be first heated with torches in order to melt the ice and dry the asphalt. Then a special formulated primer was used to attach the liner system to the existing asphalt. This treated liner was attached to the asphalt and then sprayed with 70 mil of Polyurea. American Coating Technologies’ liner system provides long term secondary containment and meets all the new and current secondary containment operating requirements.
