American Coating Technologies was contacted to solve an insulation problem with the Campbell's Soup hot water delivery system in Ohio. Campbell's Soup had installed a new system with many inlet and delivery pipes to their manufacturing process. In summary, the Campbell'a Soup delivery system was challenged with four (4) problems with their hot water delivery system:

1. Temperatures were too high to meet personal protection rules and safety requirements (temperatures were as high as 210°F)
2. High levels of energy loss
3. Delivery system’s area was filled with pipes making standard or transitional pipe insulation difficult
4. With very high humidity and existing standard insulation containing chlorides would corrode the piping and equipment

Solution

American Coating Technologies determined that spray insulation coatings would solve all of their concerns and requirements. The hot water delivery system area was masked off and an 100 mil of insulation coating was applied in five coats during one weekend.

After the completion of the insulation application, temperature of the pipes and equipment was reduced from 210°F to 130°F. Additionally, the equipment did not have to be shut down during this application and the return on investment for energy saving was 24 months.
