Project
Superior Energy tanks were taken out of service and the terminal was shut down. The existing secondary containment was constructed with earth and stone berm walls, and then covered with four inches of asphalt.
Under direction of the Department of Environmental Conservation, Superior Energy was required to submit a complete engineering plan including an API 653 inspection and a myriad of items required to put the terminal back in service. American Coating Technologies was contacted to devise a plan which included a complete secondary containment liner, a primary containment liner, and the recoating of tanks and piping.
Solution
Our American Coating Polyurea Liner was installed seamless, and we used concrete parking chocks on top of the berm to prevent wind up lift. We sand blasted the tank interior, and applied 22 mil of our flexible epoxy as the primary containment liner. We finished the project by applying our surface tolerant dry fall primer and our dry fall aliphatic urethane. All of the work we performed was inspected and approved by the DEC.
